      徐生翁（1876-1964），号安伯，字生翁，早年署李徐，浙江绍兴人。书名颇著擅行书，笔墨凝炼，结体奇崛，似儿童漫涂，稚拙古朴。间画松石小品，风格亦如其书。
      此七言联，用笔看似随意，实源自魏碑，线条凝重、浑厚，如万岁枯藤，结体拙朴可爱，一派天真，气韵直逼魏、晋。开近代以丑为美书风之先河。落款“徐生翁”二方。（孙小东）

Xu Shengweng’s Couplet in the Running Script

   Xu Shengweng (1876-1964) was from Shaoxing,Zhejiang,good at writing in the running script.His brushwork is concise,childish,simple and ancient.
   This couplet with seven characters to a line is dignified,simple and vigorous in strokes,like withered vines of a thousand years.The formation of the characters is simple,dull,lovely and innocent,the style approaching to those of Wei and Jin Dynasties.Thus a first example was set in the modern times of regarding ugliness as beauty.
