    康有为（1858-1927），近代书法家、书论家，原名祖诒，字广厦，又字长素，号更生，别署西樵山人，广东南海人，世称“南海先生”。清光绪进士，任工部主事。1898年领导“戊戌变法”，失败后流亡国外。善书，所著《广艺舟双楫》，为论述“碑学”之重要文献，有尊碑卑贴之说，对清末书坛颇具影响。
    此十二言巨联取法《石门铭》，参以《云峰山石刻》等北碑笔意，结体宽博雄强，用笔沉着果断，间有枯笔参杂其间，益见其苍劲古朴，点画间流露出北碑书法雄奇博大的气象。落款“康有为”，钤印二方。（孙小东）

Kang Youwei’s Couplet in the Running Script

  A native of Nanhai of Guangdong,Kang Youwei(1858-1927) was a calligrapher and reviewer.
  This huge couplet with 12 characters to a line followed the example of Shimen Inscription.The formation of the charaters is extensive and vigorous;the brush strokes are steady and resolute,with which some dried up strokes are mixed,thus making them appear more vigorous,simple and ancient.The characteristics of the northern tablet calligraphy,vigorousness,strangeness and extensiveness,are revealed between the dots and lines.
