    任伯年（1840-1895），名颐，字伯年，号小楼，山阴（今浙江绍兴）人。擅长人物、山水、花鸟，尤其人物、花鸟画，对近代画坛影响甚大，画风近陈洪绶，为“海上画派”之重要人物。
    此作画面构图生动，疏密有致，设色淡雅，以简洁的笔角勾勒出五只白鹭，神态各异，或觅食，或嬉戏，或凌空高飞，呈现出大自然的情趣。动与静，疏与密，浓与淡，在此幅作品中得到了完美的结合，为其中年时所作佳品。款署“光绪二年春三月，伯年任颐写于海上客次”，钤白文印“任颐”、朱文印“伯年”二方。（孙小东）

  Ren Bonian (1840-1895) was from Shaoxing,Zhejiang,a VIP of the Haishang Painting School.
  The picture composition of the work is vivid,well organized.The colors applied are quietly elegant.Five egrets are outlined by using simple,light touches,which have different attitudes and manners,presenting the charm of nature.
