    陈小莲（1634-？），本名“字”，又字名儒，号小莲。浙江诸暨人。陈洪绶之子。性不谐于俗，客游所至，辄与人忤。而所得亦随手尽。康熙五十二年（1713年）前后，以穷困死。年约八十。书画绰有父风。
    此作淡设色，布局奇古。傲岸的蟠桃老树和怪石是画面的主体，透露出老健倔强的气格。画法工笔双钩，用笔清圆细致，沉厚不苟，有金石味。通幅气局超拔磊，系老莲钵传。国家一级文物。（杨樵康）

Preserved by the Cultural Relics Administration of Shaoxing City             Chen Xiaolian (1634-?) was a native of Zhuji,Zhejiang.The main objects of the sight in the picture are old peach trees and jagged rocks of grotesque shapes,which disclose the spirit of being old but vigorous and unyielding.
  The painting is in the elaborate style,being profound and conscientious,something like being carved on bronze or stone tablet.
